Lisa Micley (Teaching Jewish Values Using BabagaNewz)
Lisa Micley is the Senior Educator at BabagaNewz. In this role, Lisa works with the staff of the magazine, Teachers' Guide, website and workshop department on the educational impact of BabagaNewz.

Lisa's experience during her career in Jewish education has included working with students, teachers and parents in Jewish schools. Lisa came to BabagaNewz after 28 years on the faculty of the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston. She has taught Talmud to middle school students, worked with teachers in an educational resource library, and served as family educator at the school. She also co-directed the professional development initiative of the school and worked on a variety of curricular projects. Lisa earned undergraduate degrees from Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary before coming to Boston to pursue graduate study at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She was a Senior Educator at the Melton Center of Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Jody Ann Rosenbloom (The Art of Teaching Hineni)
Jody Ann Rosenbloom Jody Ann Rosenbloom is currently the Education Director at the Jewish Community of Amherst where she supervises her staff in the use of the Hineini curriculum. She has worked for over 25 years in Jewish education as both teacher and administrator, in both large and small congregation supplementary schools, primarily in the Reform and Reconstructionist movements.


Zena Sulkes, Ph.D. (Moving Toward Excellence: Becoming a Strategic Teacher)
Zena Sulkes Zena Sulkes has been the Director of the Hebrew Day School for the past 10 years and also is an adjunct professor at Rollins College. She is the Past President of the National Association of Temple Educators.


Rabbi Scott Goldberg, Ph.D. (Assessment Strategies: Beyond Grades and Quizzes and Developmental Issues in Adolescence)
Rabbi Scott Goldberg Rabbi Scott Goldberg, Ph.D., is an Instructor at Yeshiva University's Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration and Stern College for Women. He completed his Ph.D. in Applied Psychology at New York University. He holds an M.S.Ed. in Special Education from Bank Street College of Education in New York and a B.A. in Jewish Studies from the University of Chicago. Dr. Goldberg is a licensed Reading Specialist and Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant. This academic background, in combination with his experience in the classroom and as an administrator in secular and religious settings, has prepared him to bridge the gap between theory and practice, as well as secular and religious studies. Dr. Goldberg is an active researcher of various educational and psychological topics including: multilingual literacy development and assessment, the connection between learning disabilities and behavior disorders, bilingual education, and special education. In addition to his responsibilities at the university, Dr. Goldberg consults with parents and schools nationally and internationally concerning social, emotional, and learning issues. He is married with two children and lives in Passaic, New Jersey.

Scott Mandel, Ph.D. (Teaching with Technology: Enhancing and Embracing New Practices)
Scott Mandel Scott Mandel received his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Southern California, an M.A.Ed. and M.A.T. in Jewish Education from the University of Judaism, and a B.A. in Jewish Studies and B.S. Ed. in Elementary Education from Ohio State University. He has worked for over 30 years in both Jewish and secular education as a teacher, administrator, writer, in-service instructor, and consultant.

Dr. Mandel is the author of Wired into Judaism: the Internet and Jewish Education, Wired into Teaching Torah: An Internet Companion, Wired into Teaching Jewish Virtues: An Internet Companion, and Wired into Teaching Holidays: An Internet Companion, all available through A.R.E. Publishing, Inc. He also has written six books on secular education topics including his two latest: The New-Teacher Toolbox: Proven Tips and Strategies for a Great First Year (Zephyr Press) and Cooperative Work Groups: Preparing Students for the Real World (Corwin Press). He is also a National Board Certified teacher.

Dr. Mandel is also the creator and director of one of the largest teacher-oriented educational Internet sites, TEACHERS HELPING TEACHERS (http://www.pacificnet.net/~mandel), which has had over four million users in the last nine years.

Joshua Yarden (Israel, Democracy and Judaism: Strategies for Teaching)
Joshua Yarden Joshua Yarden is a Ph.D. candidate in Education Culture & Society at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. He is also the educational consultant to the faculty and staff of Genesis at Brandeis University, a summer program for high school students. His work focuses on in-service professional development and curriculum design for experiential courses such as "World Religions" and "Israel: Inside and Out," a course dealing with the many challenges facing Israel as a Jewish and a democratic state. He earned an MA in Judaic Studies from the University of Haifa ('01) and a BA in Middle Eastern Studies from McGill University ('83). He worked at camps, facilitated seminars and taught in schools in the U.S. and in Israel, where he taught Issues in Israeli Society through analyzing social dilemmas. He served as an academic officer in the Israel Defense Forces Education Corps where he designed educational modules and provided consultation for education officers on implementing programming on the Mid-East conflict, Democracy, Jewish history, and the Shoah. As the director of the Ulpan at Kibbutz Ein Hashofet, Joshua designed and implemented "In the Land of Israel" through Project Oren, which introduced Israel to tourists and new immigrants from all over the world. He has lectured widely and conducted teachers' workshops for several organizations in Israel and the United States.

Josh Levisohn, Ph.D. (Teaching Jewish Texts)
Josh Levisohn Josh Levisohn is the Head of Jewish Studies and Tanakh at the Akiba Hebrew Academy, a high school in Merion, PA. Before coming to Akiba, he earned his Ph.D. in Jewish Studies at Harvard University with a dissertation entitled, "The Early Vilna Haskalah and the Search for a Modern Jewish Identity." Josh also received his B.A. at Harvard in Jewish Studies and Modern European History. He has taught Jewish studies, Jewish history, literature and Tanakh in a variety of settings, including the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, Hebrew College, Maimonides School and Akiba.

Stephanie Rotsky (Effective Classroom Strategy: From Skills to Success)
Stephanie Rotsky Stephanie Rotsky has been on the faculty at The Rashi School, Boston's Reform Jewish Day School, for 15 years. She has had the joy of teaching the founder's children in her early years and spending several years as a second grade teacher at the school. Drawing upon the integrative philosophy of the school, Stephanie has been able to meaningfully connect secular themes within a Jewish framework thereby helping her students to see the world in the context of both their Jewish and secular lives. Now in her fifth year as the Social Justice Coordinator of the school, Stephanie has the privilege of working closely with the faculty in helping develop and infuse social justice themes and programming within the curriculum and working directly in the classroom with students from K - 8.

Mira S. Halpert (MINds: Meeting Individual Needs)
Mira S. Halpert Mira S. Halpert is founder, developer and director of 3D Learner, Inc., a company devoted to helping students who learn differently to succeed in school and life.

Mira holds a Bachelor's degree in Child Development/Psychology as well as a Master's degree in Early Childhood/Gifted and Talented from The University of Michigan. She also received a post-graduate degree from the University of Sheffield in England. She has trained with world experts in movement, vision and assessment in an effort to create a world-class program to help all children succeed.

Mira has worked in education for over 25 years, where she had been director of numerous pre-schools and taught at the university level. In 1996, Mira turned her talents to working with students who learn differently. After realizing that two of her own children were visual-experiential learners she researched many programs to develop and integrate a holistic approach to working with these children and their parents. For the past eight years she has helped hundreds of students and their families, from around the world, realize their potential. Mira has provided in-services for CAJE and Hebrew Day Schools. She has done extensive teacher in-service training for both public and private school teachers. Having taught at the university level, Mira has overseen teacher-training programs as well as trained administrators, guidance counselors and social workers about how professionals can help students with different learning styles become successful learners in school.

In addition to working on reading, writing and math, Mira has developed holistic methods to improve attention, self-control and left and right brain integration. Mira will also share her insights into vision and visual perception issues these students often have and how educators can help students who learn differently succeed. Mira also provides appropriate referrals.

Ruth Gavish (Teaching Hebrew)
Ruth Ruth Gavish has a rich and varied experience in education. She started her long journey as an educator in the Israeli Junior High Schools and then became a master teacher to students of the Giv'at Hash'losha seminar. In the USA, she has worked mainly in administration; she started two new Day Schools: Talmud Torah of Saint Paul, MN and Morasha in Southern CA. She Headed The Portland Jewish Academy and then The Sager Solomon Schechter Day School. She is currently enjoying teaching Hebrew , heading the Hebrew department and writing the Hebrew curriculum for The American Hebrew Academy; a new Jewish residential high school in Greensboro, NC.

Through out the years, Ruth developed different curricula in Hebrew, Bible, T'filah and general studies for the elementary school. Her passion is integrated curriculum, which she calls, "I am not half and half."
