This course will highlight some of the issues associated with adolescents, such as: Theoretical and legal issues; Fostering the individual soul; Jewish issues and perspectives on adolescence; Adolescents, authority, and empowerment; "At-risk" children (more than one module); The role of the teacher inside and outside the classroom; Partnering with parents.

Teaching Jewish Texts - Josh Levisohn
This course explores different approaches to studying and teaching Jewish texts. The focus of this course is on creating models for adult learning of classical texts with the possibility of translating these models to a middle school and high school setting. Together, we examine the meaning and significance of the sources of Jewish tradition and collectively and collaboratively develop lessons for incorporating these insights into the classroom. We plan on offering this course every year, changing the different genres of texts. This year the course spotlighted Tanakh and Halakhic literature and included units on problem-based learning, teaching for understanding: generative topics, the use of alternative media, leveraging English translations, and Tanakh as literature.
